Stirling has been set-up to offer a differentiated management and ownership approach for industrial businesses where the strategic and operational expertise of its team combines with that of the company’s management to drive and enable improvements that create long-term shareholder value.

The core of the team worked as part of Melrose plc, where they observed and understood the strength, simplicity and success of its model and realised that an opportunity existed to focus on industrial businesses with strong fundamentals and enterprise values between £100-£750 million.

Stirling’s approach begins with the belief that many companies have the potential to achieve material margin improvement and operational growth. By focusing on providing the right leadership, empowering and incentivising management teams and investing intelligently, businesses can sustainably grow strong businesses with sound fundamentals, creating value for shareholders.

The Company’s leadership team has significant experience of implementing change strategies in businesses and has developed a track record of operational value creation across a diverse range of industries.

Strategy

The Company’s strategy begins with identifying industrial businesses where it can implement strategic, operational and performance improvements to unlock their future potential.

Transactions will be financed through a prudent combination of new equity and debt, ensuring that borrowing equates to no more than 2.5x the target company’s EBITDA. Through this financing approach, Stirling can ensure efficient capital structures and enable further investment in its target companies through capital investment or bolt-on M&A.

Having acquired an asset, Stirling’s team will work with the business’ management to implement its development programme, focusing the business on the right products and markets, with a willingness to take the necessary decisions to achieve its aims. Empowering and incentivising management teams to realise their – and the business’ – potential, Stirling aims to invest in the sustainable growth of its businesses, creating value for shareholders.

Unlike other acquirers of businesses, Stirling’s permanent capital base enables it to hold its assets for the long term, delivering capital value accretion for shareholders throughout their investment life cycle, in addition to returning capital upon exiting investments.
